Friday Fun:: Let's Sushi Samba
It's been a year since I first went to Sushi Samba but let's just say my head might still be in the clouds...
and with a view like this, can you blame me!?
It was thanks to my friend's birthday that I got to finally zoom up the magic lift to the 39th floor of the Heron Tower.
Take in the views because they are truly some of the best I've seen of London.
Given the chance of sun is more likely now...(I hope, or have I now just jinxed it?!) take advantage of sitting outside if you can.
Sitting next to a glass balcony looking over the whole of London with the Gherkin behind you, let's just say that's a view you won't forget in a while.
After exhausting your camera, you may want to glance over the Japanese Peruvian menu.
there is a huge amount one might be tempted to get.
The all day menu comes divided into:
Aperitivos
Small Plates
Raw - Sashimi Seviche
-Sashimi Tiradito
Robata - Fresh ingredients prepared over our traditional Japanese charcoal grill and served as small plates or ‘anticuchos’–Peruvian skewers.
Fish, Meat, Seafood, Veg
Large Plates
Sides
Samba Rolls
Nigiri & Sashimi
If we hadn't been advised what to choose by a friend that had recently visited, I would have been quite overwhelmed at what to try.
In the end, we decided to go for:
assortment of seviche
samba London
crab, tuna, salmon, white fish, prawn, scallop, wagyu, avocado, tempura crunch, wasabi mayo, aji panca, house-made soy reduction
pork ribs
barbecue miso and pickled yuzu apple
along with a side of plantain chips.
There's always room for pudding, right?
For me, when there's chocolate available, no other question seems relevant...
My friend was feeling a bit fruitier and went for this beautiful Mango work of art..
Menus are always subject to change and if you're worried about the nutritional value do check out Sushi Samba's website before taking a visit. They do also have a gluten free and vegan menu.
In my opinion, Sushi Samba is one of those restaurants you'll want to go to at least once in your life; there is a strange sort of omnipotency one gets from sitting in the sky, relaxing in the sun with London literally at your feet.
Food at Sushi Samba is more than art; taking a moment to just stop and stare at the masterpieces on your plate is almost a given. I've never really appreciated food as being 'beautiful' until now since the passion and skill that has gone into creating this concoction of taste, texture and colour is evident.
The fusion of Japanese, Brazilian and Peruvian cuisine works well to create more than an environment to eat. With the music and design of the place, you leave your troubles at the [ground-level] door before being transported to your exotic vacation in the clouds.

However, having said that, there's no such thing as a free lunch [unless someone else is paying ;)]
Spectacular views and ambience always seem to come with a hefty price tag so this might be one to reserve for that special dinner, that special birthday or that special person.
If you are a person that likes a substantial quantity of food - I'll tell you now, Sushi Samba is probably not what you're looking for unless you go for one of the larger plates.
A good compromise if you're not too fussed about the food, might be to just head on over to Sushi Samba bar. Minimal spending [depending on what & how many your order!] with gorgeous London landscape - #winwin.
