PhDone and NFA 2.0

If you follow along on Insta, then you’ll know I passed my PhD viva exam*

PhDone and NFA 2.0

*the PhD viva exam is where the PhD candidate defends their thesis for ~ 4 hours

(To my previous self, 4 years ago – YOU DID IT!)

As I’ve mentioned before, it’s difficult to pin-point when a PhD is truly over.

Therefore: my current status =

Corrections: done & submitted.

Certificate: in the post!

Ceremony: 2019

PhDone and NFA 2.0

What’s most important though?

To me, it's how the individual sees it and to me...

---

Given that I've had the defence exam,

given that it's on the university system

&

that there's nothing left for me to finish..

I'm PhDone!

---

So I bring you: PhDone & NFA 2.0

---

Mindset

At the start of the year, I’d mentioned that I was adopting a new mindset.

Reflections

Slowing down after a very intense 4 years felt new and a little overwhelming (more on that in a different post).

But after any landmark event comes infinite opportunity.

---

Each stage of life requires us to be a different person.

And though we may resist it,

we’re not the same person we were even a second ago.

---

I will forever be grateful for the way in which my PhD has shaped me.

---

It’s been insightful to note what habits

& mindsets I’ve cultivated along the way that I want to take forward with me,

and those I’m ready to leave behind.

---

NFA 2.0

Whilst it’s inevitable that each stage of life requires us to be a different person, it also makes sense that this corner of the internet will be evolving.

From TAD --> NFA --> NFA 2.0

Back in 2012 I started The Asian Destination as a place to share and explain my S Asian heritage to my more Western friends.

Since then, however, it has evolved to more of an online journal of personal reflection and my thoughts on causes that are important as well as my loves: lifestyle & travel.

---

Though the above is still true

I also find myself gravitating towards other areas:

the culture clash

Reproductive & Maternal Health

Universal Takeaways from the PhD that are transferable to everyday life

Spirituality

Productivity

This is a slightly different direction to what I’d previously started with but never the less, feels truly authentic.

So here comes NFA 2.0!

---

Are you Going Through Your Own 2.0 Transition ?

As with life anything, as we grow, there are often those around us who watch from the sidelines & pass judgment.

Those who find their own insecurities

being highlighted by your own alignment or authenticity.

 ---

It may be tempting to play small and to dim your light or successes in order to make another feel less insecure.

 ---

But by embracing your alignment,

you allow others to see what’s possible for them too.

---

And so, I leave you with this:

“My wish for you is that you continue.

Continue to be who and how you are, to astonish a mean world with your acts of kindness.

Continue to allow humour to lighten the burden of your tender heart.”

– Maya Angelou
