San Francisco #2 - A Food Guide

Experiencing foreign culinary delights is just as important as diving head first into a city’s sights…or uh, shopping. Food in San Fran definitely did not disappoint.

Breakfast/Brunch/Snack

Growing up on American films may have given me unrealistic expectations of what a typical diner may look like but there’s no denying that scenes in Lori’s diner were worthy of any All-American Movie!

Now if you can’t spoil yourself with a super sized helping of pancakes, strawberries & maple syrup…when in America, when can you?!

We scooched up into a red booth & handed over full control onto our greedy eyes and hungry tummies…

Did I mention this was mid-afternoon and we may have already tucked into a generous lunch.

Pancakes, strawberries and add on that maple syrup – make for a definite sweet treat.

Lunch

 Pier 39 & Fisherman’s Wharf

This place can be a little bit overhwleming trying to dodge all the excited children, families and snap-happy tourists *cough* - I myself, being one of them. But every once in a while, you need to replenish energy levels before another marathon photo session.

And by the wharf, we figured was a perfect spot to try out some fishy delights.

Carrying on the theme of food on the trip, we opted for calamari and prawns to share.

With views of Alcatraz on my right and the Golden gate in my eyeline.

If you’re lusting after something iconic, I’d recommend going for Clam Chowder served in sourdough bread bowl.

Dessert...or a sweet treat

Cheesecake factory.

Before arriving into San Fran, I’d heard murmurs of this famous cheesecake haven. ‘We have to go this time’ We’ll take you there, don’t worry’ they all promised.

They most certainly delivered on their promise.

Marshmallows S’mores Galore. Seriously this place seemed to ability to whip up your wildest cheesecake fantasy into a creamy, mammoth slice of reality.

:: Who even knew a 'Toasted Marshmallow S'mores Galore' cheesecake existed!? ??

I think it’s no surprise we may have frequented this place, more than once!

One of my favourite parts of the day is the mid-late afternoon. It’s a photographer’s dream with the light taking on an almost magical feel. With its Midas’ touch, everything quite literally turns to gold, not least one’s mood; hazy light and foreign sunshine and blue skies.

#SanFran ✨

Have no fear though, this place also delivers on food, Brits would call, ‘real nosh’ with the San Fran skyline lit up as a stunning backdrop.

Coffee

Primarily in san Fran on a conference, it’s interesting to see the conference hotel with its own Starbucks. If you’re after something a little less commercial, head on over to Little Italy.

Did I mention we had an Italian amongst us?

And if you’re at Little Italy, you may as well make a trip to the renowned Lombard Street.

Espresso down – we were ready.

Other places to try:

China Town

Though we ventured here only once, I’d love to go back and fully experience the Chinese part of town. With all the Asian supermarkets, it was almost comforting to see how diverse and inviting cities can be.

Until the next time,
