Overcoming the Dragon

So it's been a while, hasn't it? I'll let you in on a little secret...

Slaying The Dragon

I've been trying to conquer a dragon.

Something I think we all face on a day to day basis. Somedays we slay the beast, other days we accept defeat and it conquers us.

What is this dragon of a beast that comes back each day, hungry for victory?

Resistance.

---

From the very first moment you hear your alarm in the morning - your conscious self has a choice.

Click 'Snooze' or Jump out of bed.

---

I don't think there's anyone out there who can say they haven't clicked snooze at least once in their life.

For most of us, this might even be the majority of the time.

But have you found that the more you give in to just that first 'snooze', your day ends up filled with 'snoozes'?

You're more likely to 'snooze' on your 'healthy lunch' or 'taking the stairs'.

It's also easier to say 'yes' to another evening plan when really you ought to go home, clean up your mess of a bedroom and have an early night or follow that 'thrifty spending' plan you promised yourself.

---

Resistance.

Let me be honest. You are one huge pain in the backside!

---

For the past couple of weeks, I have slammed on the 'snooze' button with regards to blogging and creating new content.

For me, a momentary lapse in any routine, be it for exercise, meditation or even writing,  makes it all the more difficult to regain and muster my initial enthusiasm. Hence why I've been slightly M.I.A.

---

Solutions?

- Apply the no judgement rule.

We ALL fall off the path at some point or another.

I'm not perfect.

There are days when I snooze my 10 alarms multiple times and then actually end up oversleeping by 2 hours.

It happens.

---

There are days when I've promised myself I'll catch up on all my writing for the week ahead...

....and not been able to write more than a sentence.

Then there are the days I've promised myself to eat and drink my '5 a day'...

...only to end up finishing a whole pack of M&S biscuits* in one sitting and without sharing as much as a crumb.

It happens & reiterate.

No judgement.

---

But as long as you know that each day's struggle is different.

Just because you've slayed the dragon once does not make you immune to its persuasive tactics tomorrow.

Just being consistent every day will strengthen your muscles to  help you jump out bed or wait slightly longer before you click 'snooze' tomorrow.

Now that I've owned up on here...I (& you) hold myself accountable. Why?!

The amount of people that have said to me:

'But you have to do that now, you're facing a fear everyday!

'What's the worst that could happen'

'It may end up as a great story to tell!'

At first, it was a bit unnerving to realise people actually were reading what I was writing but I realise that I'm so grateful to not only have loyal readers but also a support network.

Now, I have to try that much harder every day to slay the dragon of resistance and resist pressing 'snooze'.

What dragons have you been slaying?
