Cultivating A Morning Routine is Vital for Success
Did you get up on the right side of the bed this morning?
Why ‘getting up on the wrong side of the bed’ is no longer a valid excuse!
We can’t blame a bad day on ‘getting up on the wrong side of the bed’.
---
Although you may not have any control over the events that happen during the course of your day, what you do have control over is your attitude and reaction to certain situations that may arise.
---
Did you know?
Although you may not be a ‘morning person’, our minds have shown to be more responsive, more alert and able to process more complex information first thing after a refreshing sleep.
The body is calmed, your mind is primed to tackle a complex problem…
Yet…
What is the first thing many of us do these days?!
Check our emails on our phones, get distracted by notifications and end up simultaneously try to refresh Twitter, Facebook and Instagram feeds whilst trying to reply to our friends’ texts, a missed Skype call and instant messages. We’ve cultivated a habit of urgency; we see a text, an email and we feel the world will come to an end if we do not response immediately. What happens next? We get irritated, agitated and end up ruining any chance of a great day ahead. No wonder our brain feels overloaded by lunch time!
Newsflash.
You forgot to breathe.
It’s time to press pause.

Ways You Can Give Yourself The Best Start To The Day Before You’ve Even Had Breakfast!*
- Before sleep, switch off ALL your devices to OFF or SILENT.
If you definitely need your phone, then switch it to calls only. This way your phone won’t disturb you every time you receive a notification or email about the next ASOS sale or Amazon deal..
If you have a smart phone, switch to airplane mode.
Keep your phone and devices in this mode ONLY when you have taken enough time for yourself & are ready to face the day.
- Cultivate A Spiritual Practice
In Hinduism, during pujas e.g. (see Durga Puja) Aarti (devotional worship) also comes with the opportunity to cleanse the soul and carry out ‘spiritual practice’ or Shadhana. Shadhana is a time to seek spiritual peace within yourself regardless of the chaos of the modern world around us.
You might be religious. You might not be.
It doesn’t matter.
What matters is that a spiritual practice, Shadana, is a time to look within oneself and seek spiritual peace.
What might this entail?
- 5, 10, 15 minute breathing meditation
- Journal writing
- A prayer, mantra or affirmation
- Have a Gratitude List
If you’ve heard of The Law of Attraction, then you’ll have stumbled across The Secret, Power, Magic & Hero.
Though some may argue with the portrayal of ideas in these books, no one can dispute the power of gratitude.
-Make A List of Things You Were Grateful each day
-In The Morning, read over your gratitude list from the night before
-Start a new list for the new day, adding 5 things.
- Creatively Visualise Your Day
-Creatively visualizing your day may not turn it into a reality but it will help your focus
why?
-because when you focus & visualize, your breath slows, your mind calms and we feel in control more.
- Smile & Start Your Day!
Time to switch on all those hi-tech gadgets & deal with the ‘real’ cyber world!
These are a few techniques I’ve seen to help me start the day off to a good start. Let me know if have any other things you like to do in the mornings before starting work.
